Analytics / Data & Analytics

Analytics Lead, Product Analytics

Full Time

Since 2002, Quantium has squeezed every bit of insight we can from our clients’ data to give them competitive advantage and to support the growth of their business.

Times and technology have changed, but our goal has not. Instead of handling millions of lines of de-personalised, hashed and salted data, we now handle billions. We have built some of the most advanced analytical modelling products available in Australia and now we want to bring them to the world.

To do this, we are looking to strengthen our analytical leadership, focused on delivering best in class applied analytics, data science and AI for Quantium CheckOut, a self-serve insights portal, giving FMCG Retailers and FMCG Suppliers access to customer understanding across their business.

This role will see you lead and motivate a team that is constantly pushing the boundaries with both the latest big data technology, and market leading analytics, as you make complex metrics available to users instantaneously on the largest retail dataset in Australia. Quantium CheckOut is hosted on our bespoke big data platform allowing users to interactively browse actionable insights and make data driven decisions in real time.

What will the goals of my role be?

Working alongside Product and Delivery Managers and across 4-5 cross-functional squads of more than 30 people, you will be responsible for leading the analytical direction for Quantium CheckOut, shaping the analytics architecture, technology and tool-set to meet substantial growth and revenue targets. This is a unique opportunity to continually experiment with the latest technologies and to shape the future of one of our flagship products.

You will manage and lead 6 analysts across our squads, improving quality and driving a move to continuous delivery, providing technical mentoring, evaluating new technologies for fit and building out advanced analytics in product components that meet our clients’ needs. You will also be a hands-on member of one squad, contributing to design, build, test and deployment of advanced analytics (machine learning models and maturing them into artificial intelligence components) on Quantium’s big data platform as well as other platforms including SQL, MDX, and Teradata.

Right. You want a people manager and a top end data scientist? Bit demanding aren’t you?

Yes, we are, but there is good reason for that. The people manager aspect of this role is crucial; We are passionate about ensuring our people have the support from leaders with the right experience to provide specialist advice, guidance and feedback that is based on a deep knowledge of the work being done. This role will be responsible for providing coaching, career planning support, performance management and raising the overall capability of our Product Analytics team.

That is why it is crucial that you have been a senior analyst or data scientist previously with a significant level of knowledge when it comes to the technical aspects of the analytics/data science discipline; including data preparation, feature engineering and foundational analytics concepts, model development and model training.

Here is what we need to see from you:

  • Evidence of a real passion for analytics/data science, understanding current and emerging thinking in supervised and unsupervised learning, optimisation, big data and associated disciplines
  • A commercial focus – You can design an approach that balances commercial application, practical constraints and quality analytics.
  • You can communicate difficult technical concepts to a wide range of audiences, both technical and non-technical
  • You will have been operating as a team lead or manager of an advanced analytics team for at least 12 months
  • Solid decision-making experience, you know how to take ideas on-board, giving the team wide scope to select appropriate solutions, while still maintaining boundaries on what is useful and what is not

What would set you apart from the crowd?

  • Knowledge of or experience in working with data focused products
  • Experience working in a cross functional agile team with other highly technical disciplines e.g. Software Engineers, Data Engineers etc

Ok, that’s great, but what’s in it for me?
